October is National Cholesterol Month, and Flora ProActiv has created new recipes to mark the occasion to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels without losing flavor.

Many suffer from high cholesterol, but it can easily go unnoticed and without symptoms. To help with cholesterol management, Flora ProActiv shares these recipes for a healthy version of our favorite foods.

Autumn French toast

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

Portions: 2 parts

Ingredients:

1 medium cooking apple (about 100g after preparation)

10g Flora 100% Natural Ingredients

1 tbsp dark brown sugar

¼ tsp cinnamon

1 large egg, beaten

60 ml semi-skimmed milk

tsp vanilla extract

2 thick slices of bread

1 tsp of vegetable oil

20g Flora ProActiv Light

Method:

1. First, peel the apple and cut it into cubes.

2. Melt the Flora 100% Natural Ingredients in a pan over medium heat, add the sugar and mix to dissolve in the Flora. Add the apple to the pan and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cook for about five minutes until the fruit begins to color, stirring regularly.

3. Meanwhile, prepare the mixture for the French toast. In a large, shallow bowl, combine the beaten egg, milk and vanilla extract.

4. When the apple is ready, remove from heat to a bowl.

5. Add the oil to the pan over medium heat (no need to wash it first, all of those lovely flavors will soak into the French toast!).

6. Place a slice of bread in the egg mixture for a few seconds, then turn it over to coat the other side. If the bread is fresh, it won’t need much soaking (a few seconds), while older bread will take a little longer.

7. Quickly transfer the coated bread to the pan. Repeat with the second slice.

8. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread begins to brown.

9. Transfer to a plate and spread Flora ProActiv on the toast, then add the cooked fruit.

Portions: 2 parts

Ingredients:

1 precooked baguette

60 g sliced ​​roast turkey

40g of brie

1 medium tomato

30g of arugula

40g grilled peppers

20g Flora ProActiv Light spread

Freshly ground black pepper

Method:

1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for heating the baguette in the oven.

2. While the bread is baking, prepare your filling. Slice the tomatoes, wash the arugula, slice the brie thinly and cut the red peppers into small pieces.

3. When the bread is finished baking, cut the baguette in half, lengthwise and crosswise to make two portions.

4. Spread the bread with the Flora ProActiv and place the brie slices on the hot bread so that it begins to melt.

5. Then top with sliced ​​tomatoes, peppers, arugula and turkey – dividing ingredients evenly between the two portions.

6. Grind black pepper on your toppings and have your baguette sandwiched.

7. Serve with a side salad.

Spicy Fruity Tea Bread

Portions: 12 servings

Ingredients:

300 ml of chai tea (2 tea bags in 300 ml of hot water)

100g of raisins

100g of raisins

50g cranberries

50g chopped apricots

The zest of an orange

150g light brown sugar

1 teaspoon of mixed spices

1 large egg, beaten

50 ml of semi-skimmed milk

250g self-rising flour

120g Flora ProActiv Light

Method:

1. Add your chai tea bags to hot water and let steep for 5 minutes.

2. Add the fruit to a mixing bowl with the orange zest, and when the tea is brewed, pour it over. Leave in the refrigerator overnight to allow the fruit to absorb the delicious flavors of the tea.

3. Heat the oven to 160C / 140C fan / gas mark 3.

4. Add the sugar, mixed spices, egg and milk to the fruit mixture and mix.

5. Add the flour and stir until all the ingredients are combined.

6. Pour into a cake tin and bake for about 1 hour 30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

7. Let cool slightly, then slice and serve with 10g Flora ProActiv per person for a serving of plant sterols with your afternoon treat.
