Dominic the Food Reviewer’s Top 5 Favorite Restaurants for 2022

At OnMilwaukee, we believe in raising all voices and using our platform to support the dreams of others. And that’s what we hope to do for Dominic the Food Reviewer. When I first met Dominic almost two years ago, I was impressed by his passion, curiosity and interest in improving his writing. Over time, I not only enjoyed getting to know him better, but he taught me as much as I taught him. I hope you not only enjoy reading Dominic’s reviews, but also understanding and enjoying seeing the world of food through his eyes. — Lori Fredrich, Editor-in-Chief

Here are my top five favorite restaurants I reviewed in 2022 (in no particular order). It was really hard to make this list because I’ve been to so many amazing places over the year.

Last month I was able to make a visit to Theinsville to try Daily Taco and Cantina. I have to say one of the Barkha owners was super friendly and welcoming, and I loved meeting her. The food they serve was amazing and I absolutely loved my dinner here. The taquitos, tacos, corn and beans were all outstanding.

I love Thai food and anything with heat and flavor. This restaurant was beautiful inside and all the food I tried – including the egg roll and pad thai noodles – was out of this world. This panang curry was so good it made my mouth water. I loved the family atmosphere here. The two co-owners Victoria Sithy and Andrew are super lovely and are beyond fun spending time with them. Victoria’s mother and all the other staff made us feel like family. Definitely a must.

They had some of the best around. Their Luisa pizza, which I had was more than tasty, and I polished all that pizza. The thin cracker crust was delicious, and the garlic bread and appetizers were perfect as well. Owner Matt Allen was extremely cool and friendly, and I loved what he created in Waterford.

Dom at CrawdaddyX

My favorite part of exploring Crawdaddy’s was the New Orleans-style vibe with French Quarter lights and musicians livening up the restaurant. Their shellfish etouffee which I had with gulf shrimp, lobster, crawfish tails, sea scallops, trinidad, caramel roux and a cornbread rice side dish was the highlight of my evening. I felt like I was in New Orleans and the owner Troy Meyer is awesome. He does an outstanding job and works very hard to bring the concept of Louisiana to the whole local community.

Gino Fazzari was such an honor to meet earlier this summer. He explained his Italian origins very well and is interactive with his customers. Their braised short rib tortellacci with broccolini and sausage had a creamy flavor. It was perfectly filling. The thin Milwaukee cracker crust had an extra crunch that I absolutely enjoyed. This place has such a great and welcoming vibe with delicious Italian food that you can’t miss.
