Cullercoats Coffee Co. opens new French bistro-style venue in Whitley Bay

A company that has become a popular favorite on the coast brings a taste of France to Whitley Bay in the form of a stylish new cafe.

Cullercoats Coffee Co. follows the success of its existing Cullercoats and Tynemouth locations with its latest venture, which opened on Countess Avenue on Monday August 26. While the new Whitley Bay venue features some elements locals will recognize from its sister venues, including award-winning Tynemouth Coffee Co. coffee served in signature yellow cups, it also offers something new.

The new Cullercoats Coffee Co. cafe has been done in the style of a French bistro, with a tasty new menu offering. Starting the day with a hearty breakfast menu, visitors can enjoy classics like a full English stottie or sausages – with bread from Pure Knead, another Whitley Bay company – or try something a little different like the Arnold Bennett omelet with smoked haddock.

Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, bowls of yogurt and avocado granola on sourdough toast. And the lunch menu is where the French inspiration comes into play, serving up small plates like French onion soup and steak frites to British and continental meat and cheese boards.

The new Whitley Bay venue is also a great place to grab a drink with friends in the evening, serving alcohol from lunchtime Tuesday through Sunday. There are carefully selected draft beers, ciders, wines, prosecco and champagnes to complement the food offering, as well as a French cocktail menu.

The business, which was taken over last October and is now run by Paul Stonebanks, his wife Joanne, their 19-year-old son Cole and Lauren Peters, has big plans for the coast. The ultimate goal is to have five Cullercoats Coffee Co. locations within a five-mile radius, each offering something unique.

With a cafe they hope to turn into a bakery, a takeaway restaurant and a bistro already under their belt, plans are underway for two more locations in the future. The aim is to open a second branch in Whitley Bay, which will offer a delicatessen type offer, and a fifth new location in North Shields Fish Quay.

Cullercoats Coffee Co. recently welcomed Eddie Saint on board as its new chef, who attended MasterChef The Professionals last year and worked at Riley’s Fish Shack and Jesmond Dene House. As the business continues to grow, they have pledged to donate 10% of their profits to charities in the local community.

The Whitley Bay Bistro is open from 7 a.m. daily, closing at 2 p.m. Monday, 7 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Visitors can take advantage of a lunch deal, which offers two main courses and two drinks for £24 from 3-5pm Tuesday to Thursday, or a two-for-£10 cocktail deal daily from 3pm-5pm.
