Best dog-friendly pubs in Melbourne

There’s nothing like rolling down to the local with your best friend by your side, you’ll have a pint of XPA, they’ll dive into the communal watering hole, there’s a good time to be had by all.

For information on some of the best places to take our four-legged friends, we spoke to Melbourne pub enthusiasts/dog owners, including myself, to find out first-hand which pub they prefer with their puppies and Why.

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly pub in Melbourne, here’s where to go:

Simon and Leo

So Leo can be a little sheepish around other dogs, so we always prefer a place with a quick getaway plan in case he doesn’t vibrate with another woofer. That’s why we often head to the beer garden corner of The Great Northern just next to the entrance, it’s spacious and it also enjoys football on the big outdoor screen and of course the Parma Falls.

Elisa and Ziggy

For us we’re heading to Bodriggy Brewing in Collingwood, it’s a nice open space not too far from our house with good beer. Ziggy is still a puppy so it’s good to get her used to being in different environments with lots of people, she’s a real sociable person and there’s a wide easy exit in case she needs to pee.

Adam and Toby

Our favorite dog pub is The Lord Newry Hotel at North Fitzroy. They have a great outdoor dining area and it’s the perfect place to grab a beer after a run in Toby’s favorite park, Edinburgh Gardens. It’s a laid back place with a classic pub vibe.

Tom and Hans

My two local favorites for dogs are The Marquess of Lorne and The Standard Hotel. Although Marquis of Lorne doesn’t have a beer garden as such, they do allow (and love) dogs inside on the ground floor. Every time we go you will see lots of dogs hanging around under the tables or patiently waiting for a chip.

The Standard Hotel is a pub you might not know is dog friendly as you have to walk your dog through the pub to the large beer garden at the back. There are lots of trees, vines and greenery everywhere and it’s a great atmosphere to have a beer with your dogs and friends.
