8 Fun Culinary Events Around DC This Weekend

Mardi Gras is approaching in March, and restaurants around DC are already celebrating with King Cake. Dauphine’s (1100 15th St., NW), the New Orleans-inspired spot in downtown DC, launches its confection ($45) today 27 january– and the flavors change every week until the end of February. Bayou Bakery (1515 N. Courthouse Road, Arlington) – which calls itself “Mardi Gras headquarters” – offers a cake in green, purple and yellow hues ($45). Meanwhile French restaurant Convivial (801 West St. W) prepares a galette des rois ($36).

3-star brasserie (6400 Chillum Pl., NW) throws a Valentine’s Day tonight January 27 17 hours. Customers can create Valentines using collage materials like glitter glue and stickers while sipping beers. Each $30 ticket includes admission, a beer and gear for five valentines.

Launch of the new bar and restaurant at the Dupont Circle Lyle’s Hotel Sip and savora series of monthly wine dinners starting tonight January 27 at 5:30 PM (1731 New Hampshire Ave NW). Natural wine supplier Domestic will combine interesting dishes with family favorites like duck croquettes and lamb cavatelli. Reservations are $70 per person.

One of the week’s big tickets: a five-course Sicilian wine dinner at Michelin-starred Fiola restaurant to saturday january 27 (601 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW). Reservations ($35o per person) are available on tack and include the meal and Italian wines.

Head to Bloomingdale’s Wine Bar established for a Bulgarian wine tasting on saturday 29 january at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Each $60 ticket includes four half glasses of wine including one natural sparkling orange, one white, and two red wines, plus snacks.

Raclette fans rejoice: every peach market in Mt. Pleasant hosts a pop-up window on their streavery on saturday 29 january with a lot of melting cheese in the Swiss tradition (3068 Mt Pleasant St., NW). Cheesemakers will pour cheese over plates of roasted potatoes, cauliflower and pickle ($18), or all of that plus ham ($20). It starts at noon and continues until 3 p.m. (or full).

For those who do not participate in Dry January, Barca Wine Bar & Pier organizes a virtual cocktail class to Sunday January 30 at 18 hours. For $45 (for two people), the course includes a cocktail kit containing the ingredients for two Cranberry Palomas, glassware and wine pairings. Kits can be picked up at the bar (2 Pioneer Mill Way, Alexandria) during the weekend.

The Smithsonian’s is hosting a Lunar New Year virtual cooking demo on monday january 31 with chefs Kevin Tien (Moon Rabbit), Rose Nguyen (Rose Ave Bakery) and Yuan Tang (Rooster & Owl). Korean Restaurant Anju’s Special Lunar New Year Dinner Seollal 설날 Starts On Wednesday, February 1 and pays homage to the traditional dishes served during the Korean New Year (1805 18th St., NW). Dinner ($100 per person; $40 drinks optional) includes dishes like mandu dumplings and sweet potato noodles with winter vegetables and truffles. Reservations can be made via Resy.
